A2A2 Raw Milk ⋆

WHAT IS RAW MILK?

Raw milk is unpasteurized, non homogenized milk, meaning that all of its nutrients are readily available and that the cream will naturally rise to the top. Raw milk contains 100% active Vitamin A, C, E, iron, zinc, calcium, enzymes, immunoglobulins, and whey protein. The enzymes are activated in digestive tract and aid in digesting the many components in milk. in pasteurized milk, those enzymes are lost during the heating process. Also, in the pasteurization process, many of the nutrients are significantly reduced or destroyed.

IS RAW MILK SAFE?

It's a question many people have. We want to make sure you understand the priority we will put on the quality and safety of our herd share owners’ milk. Real milk that has been produced in sanitary, humane conditions is a safe and healthy whole food.

ISN'T RAW MILK ILLEGAL?

The retail sale of raw milk is illegal in the state of kentucky. However, nothing is stopping someone from drinking milk from their own cow through herdshare. By the customer paying a herdshare and boarding fee, they are technically drinking milk from their own cow, which allows the sale of raw milk through herdshare to be legal and safe. The legalization of herdshares was passed by the senate spring 2012.

HOW DOES A HERDSHARE WORK?

You will need to become a herdshare owner. Raw milk can not be sold or purchased in the state of Kentucky. In our herdshare program, owners pay the farmer (Savannah) a fee for boarding their share of the herd, caring for the herd, and milking the herd. The herdshare owner then obtains raw milk from his or her share of the herd.

For each herdshare purchased, you will have access to one gallon of milk each week. You can also own half shares, this will allow you access to ½ gallon a week. The number of shares is how many gallons of milk you will receive a week.
